Keeper Recommendations? - Originally replied to on 12/14/07
Question from: J.R.
Question - Guys, need your assistance in determining who to keep in my 13-team MLB keeper league. Usual H2H scoring, except that for pitchers, you get 10 points for a win, a shutout or a save, blown saves and losses gets you -5, and complete game gets you 5 points. Currently we keep up to 5, but next year it will be 6 or 7. Any combinations are allowed. My roster:
BATTERS
Russell Martin
Albert Pujols
Ian Kinsler
Miguel Cabrera
Carlos Guillen
Brandon Phillips
Mark Teahen
Matt Holliday
Josh Willingham
Chris Duncan
Cory Hart
Alex Gonzalez
PITCHERS
B Fuentes
T Gordon
J Vazquez
J Santana
B Hennessey
C R. Young
M Pelfrey
E Gagne
O Dotel
J Bonderman
J Lester
U Jimenez
A Otsuka
F Carmona
K Kendrick
A Reyes
M Corpas
M Albers
Guys, your recommendations will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Answer - With 5 keepers I would go with Pujols, M. Cabrera, and M. Holliday. I think they will give you great start for batters. Then I would keep Santana and Vazquez. Those pitchers will help out with the scoring you mentioned below. Santana did have a slightly down season last year compared to others, but I think he will bounce back fine.

Response - You would keep Vazquez instead of Fausto Carmona? We will have either 6 or 7 keepers this year, so I may be able to keep both.

Answer - If you can keep both, I would keep definitely keep them both also.
I initially went with Vazquez because he has more seasons under his belt. Carmona had a great season, but it is his first full season as a starter. But, if you can keep an extra player or want to take a chance on him. I would go for it. Just keep in mind Carmona may not have as good as year as last season.
