Allowed To Keep 7? - Originally replied to on 09/12/07
Question from: Mike
Question - Who should I keep? I'm allowed seven keepers and I'm already keeping M. Cabrera, Beltran, J. Santana, Beckett and Kazmir. I can take two more and it is between...
Derek Jeter
Hunter Pence
B.J. Upton
Hideki Matsui
Tim Lincecum
Yovani Gallardo
I can't decide whether to go with the younger guys and who I will have the best shot at re-drafting. I'd like your advice.

Answer - I would keep BJ and Gallardo even though it will give you 4 pitchers to 3 bats. If you do not want another pitcher at this point I would go with Jeter. But, I explained my first to choices below.
Jeter is on the lower side for RBIs and HRs (compared to Upton) which have declined slightly over the past 3 / 4 seasons with some other key categories. Also, he only qualifies for one position while Upton qualifies for three.
Pence would be nice to keep but I think you can redraft him if you play your cards right.
Matsui would be my close second choice if I kept 2 bats. I chose BJ over Matsui because of Stolen Bases. And Jeter over Matsui because of the number of games Jeter playes compared to some slight injuries to Matsui.
If you asked me at the start of the season who I would pick between Lincecum and Gallardo I would have said Lincecum, now I am leaning towards Gallardo. Both are great and I would definitely keep one of them.
