The Obvious Choices?
Question from: Matt

Question - I am in a 10 team league which keeps 3 players. Parameters are as follows.

You give up the pick from the round the player was originally drafted in. Players can be kept for 3 years Max. Each subsequent year a player is kept, the round you give up rises by 2.

5 X 5 league using OBP and SLG instead of Avg. and HR.

     Choices:
     1st Tejada
     2nd Cabrera
     3rd Delgado
     4th Harden
     5th K-Rod
     6th Mauer
     7th BJ Ryan
     8th Ryan Howard
     9th Vernon Wells
     12th Weeks and Delmon Young
     17th Nick Swisher

The obvious choices seem to be Mauer, Howard and Wells. Just looking for other opinions.

Answer - Howard goes with out saying and is a steal at the 8th round. I would then go ahead and keep Cabrera at 2nd. His stats are better than Tejada and should be the same again. I think it's worth giving up the 2 round pick when you consider that the other 9 teams will keep 3 players also. For a total of the top 30 players gone. And Cabrera is in that range for sure.

Then I would try to keep it balanced and not take all batters, but you only have 1 pitcher and Harden can be taken in this years draft at a latter round more than likely. So, if Harden is not an option its a toss up for me on V. Wells and D. Young. Young with his potentiol is a great option at the 12 round and would be solid for you for years. Wells of course is the safer pick.
