Fantasy Question: LJ For T. Brady & A. Boldin?

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Ryan

Question - A guy in my league just offered me Larry Johnson for Tom Brady and Anquan Boldin. I am nervous about trading Brady because he finally has 3 receivers to throw too, and Larry Johnson is currently planning on holding out, not to mention Priest is trying to make a comeback. If I did this trade I would now have the following 5 keepers to choose from.

Vince Young
Larry Johnson
Cedric Benson
Ronnie Brown
Tatum Bell
Tj Housh
M. Colston
Plaxico Burress

I think I would keep LJ, C. Benson, R. Brown, TJ Housh and Colston. We do not start 3RB or a flex so one of those RB’s I would have to trade or store on the bench each week.

I pick 6th (which is really like the 6th round of the draft because of the 5 keeper slots) in my draft and I am pretty sure Marc Bulger , Vince Young, and Matt Leinhart will be available when I pick. Do I definitely have to pull the trigger on this trade? Or do you think I should stay put with the keepers I already have from my last question?

Fantasy Question: Wide Receivers Rankings?

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Ryan

Question - Your recently answered a question that I had involving the number 2 pick in an upcoming rookie draft. I had two more questions that I would really appreciate your advice on. We have standard scoring league without points for receptions, and rookies we are allowed to keep rookies free for 3 years.

1 - I have the 9th pick in my rookie draft, and am looking to take a WR. In what order would you rank Dwayne Jarrett, Robert Meachem, and Dewayne Bowe?

2 - I have the 3rd pick after our keepers, and there are 3 WR that I am interested in. In what order would you take Marques Colston, Lee Evans, and Anquan Boldin?

Your help would truly be appreciated. I am up in the air on both of these questions. Thank you for your time.

Fantasy Question: I Can Retain 5 Keepers

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Larry

Question - Our League has an auction draft. We start with $100 less players retained.

Players retained cost an additional $2 from prior year's contract

I have the following 6 players and can retain 5.

2 D. Branch wr Sea - $1 D. Branch - $3
3 S. Holmes wr Pit - $1 S. Holmes - $3
4 P. Rivers qb SD - $3 P. Rivers - $5
5 M.Barber rb Dal - $4 M.Barber - $6
6 D. Williams rb Car - $15 D. Williams - $17

I thinking of keeping: Rivers, Branch, Walker, Holmes and Barber.

What would you suggest?

Fantasy Question: 4 & 7 or 5 & 6 Draft Picks?

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Brian

Question - In our supplemental draft, I have the choice between picking 4 & 7 or 5&6. The first three picks are pretty much set to be Romo, Peterson and Quinn. I am leaning towards taking Calvin Johnson at 4. If I do, Lynch and Colston should go 5-6, and I can grab Travis Henry at 7, with Russell or Cotchery also still available. If I go 5-6, it is iffy whether Lynch or CJ goes four, leaving me with the other and Colston or Henry.

If I go four, most likely scenario is I get CJ/Henry.
If I go five, most likely scenario is I get CJ/Colston.
Ideally, I would go five and get Lynch/Colston, but I think Lynch is less likely to be there at five than CJ.

Am I wrong to prefer Colston over Henry where once a player is selected, he is basically on a roster for life? Lyncy vs. CJ is basically a coin flip for me, but I am stronger at WR than RB.

Would you take the four-seven, or five-six?

Fantasy Question: Trading Away Reyes?

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Joseph - Originally received on 07/30/07

Question - I'm in second place in an 11 team league where we keep only 3 players for next year (I have 83 points, 1st place has 86.5). Right now my keepers are Reyes, Utley and Morneau. I have the option of trading away Reyes to get Vlad and Tejada from a team who has just about decided he's out of the race. This could give me the players I need to win this year but I lose my top pick and possibly best keeper. Reyes would probably be replaced with Vlad who doesn't seem to be performing like a 1st round pick and hasn't for a couple years now.

Here are the numbers - I can gain 3 (maybe 2) points and take one from first place if my average improves maybe 5% and gain another 2 points and take one from first place in RBIs if they increase a little (I'm only 7 behind the RBI leader and 3 behind the guy in 1st). But, if I don't pick up more stolen bases I could lose 3 or 4 points there because everyone is pretty close (I might be able to trade for SBs from the same guy). Overall, it looks like I can get 4 or 5 points and take 2 unless I lose stolen bases in which case I can lose 4 more. Is Reyes worth giving up forever for Vlad? Utley will come off the DL in a few weeks which will help my RBIs and average especially since I just traded for him, but will he have enough time?

Fantasy Question: Howie Kendrick Question?

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Trey

Question - I've been keeping Kendrick on my roster all season long and am currently riding out this DL stint. This is starting to effect my roster decisions as I need to focus on my pitching down the stretch. Is there any basis in the thought of keeping Kendrick next year?

I am in a 12 team keeper league where earch team keeps up to 4 players. Standard categories apply (HR, RBI, AVG, R, SB). My team consist of the following key players: Hanley Ramirez, Matt Holliday, Lance Berkman, Andruw Jones, Aramis Ramirez, CC Sabathia, John Smoltz, Mariano Rivera, and Trevor Hoffman.

As you can see with Berkman, Jones and Rivera my lofty expectations this year have been doused with inconsistent and down right bad play.

Obviously I am keeping Hanley and Holliday but my last two spots are somewhat undecided. What I don't want to happen is to lose Kendrick, someone pick him up next year and then he turns into the next Utley. Would you keep him over Aramis or one of the other guys next year? Thanks.
