Fantasy Question: Draft M. Lynch or C. Jackson

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Ryan

Question - I have a tough decision to make in a couple of weeks regarding the rookie draft in our keeper league. We use a standard scoring system without points for receptions, and we start 3 WR and 2 RB. I currently have Steven Jackson, Reggie Bush, Chad Johnson, and Torry Holt. I also have the 2nd and 9th rookie pick. Who do I take at #2 Lynch or C.J? I am leaning towards Lynch since I can take a Dwayne Jarrett or Robert Meachem with the 9th. After our rookie draft, we get to keep the players we drafted free for 3 years

Fantasy Question: New League Format Question?

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Dave

Question - Great website. Really good information. I have a question though. I'm starting an 8 team Football Keeper League. It’s a brand new league with no history so we are starting from scratch. I'd like to have an auction draft but not sure how to go about it in the second year. These are a few of my Ideas. What do you guys think?

2 Keepers First year
1 RB (Max)
1 Position Open

3 Keepers per season after that
1 RB (Max)
2 Position Open

18 Roster spots.
Starters: 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1K, 1LB, 1DL, 1DB
Reserves: 1 Defensive player, 7 Position Optional

Auction Draft: $200 Cap
144 total players drafted (Year one)
$1 minimum per player
Must draft a full roster
Must draft at least 4 IDP

2nd Year Keeper Draft Teams will lose the following amounts toward their $200 Salary Cap for each player kept in the 2nd year draft on.
RB - $50
WR - $30
QB - $15
All Others - $10

3 Year Max on kept players.
Traded Keepers must still reenter the draft after the 3rd year from which they were originally drafted.

Fantasy Question: Mark Teixeria or Vernon Wells?

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Robert

Question - Who do you like better for a Keeper Roto League: Mark Teixeria or Vernon Wells?

Categories: Runs, Hits, HomeRuns, RBI, SB, AVG (we dont have any pitchers).

I have a good outfield and good options to play at first base, so losing one or the other doesn't really hurt, I'd just like to get the best player based on tradional Roto categories.

It is a keeper league, and I can only keep one.

Fantasy Question: Coco Crisp or David DeJesus?

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Ryan - Originally received on 07/10/07

Question - Ok, let me start by saying I am a huge Red Sox fan which may be swaying my decision a little bit, but I would love your opinion on this topic.

I have Coco Crisp on my team right now and he has been doing really great as of late, but recently a manager in my league dropped David DeJesus because he had too many players. I would love to pick up DeJesus but am not sure if he is a better option than Coco. DeJesus is having a better year as of now, but he plays for the Royals and may not have as many opportunities as Coco.

Also, Coco seemed to be getting hot right before the break which makes me think I should keep him. I'm just not sure, I'm in a Roto League and DeJesus has better numbers in everything but SB and PO. I have alot of stolen base guys (Pierre...etc.) so I don't know that I really need that stat from Coco. Your opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Fantasy Question: Rank These Four SPs?

Ask the Staff: Fantasy Questions
Question from: Jordan - Originally received on 07/09/07

Question - In a 20-team 5x5 league with 7 keepers, I've assembled this keeper core: Albert Pujols, Jose Reyes, Miguel Cabrera, Carl Crawford, Russell Martin, Jake Peavy, and Felix Hernandez (I've worked really hard, and have done well with timely buy-lows and sell-highs). I also have these players on my roster: Matt Holliday, Carlos Zambrano, and Francisco Liriano.

My target is 5 bats and 2 arms, with zero relievers as keepers (I just don't trust them enough, even though I have Saito and Hoffman), and I try to plan a core that will be competitive for 5+ years (so youth is a plus). I'm very happy with C/1B/SS/3B... which OF should I keep to balance my team the best, Holliday or Crawford? Also, looking to the long-term, how should I rank those 4 SPs? I am probably going to have to trade one of them away. I'm very high on Felix, and I like Liriano if he can stay healthy... but Peavy is flat out dominant and Zambrano is always a shiny spot on a roster. How should I rank those 4 SPs, 1-4?
