Ask the Staff: Fantasy QuestionsQuestion from: Kevin - This may sound like a ridiculous question at first glance, but hear me out...and then you can say it's ridiculous.
LT had one of the best seasons in fantasy football history, much like Shaun Alexander in 2005, Peyton Manning in 2004, and Priest Holmes in 2002 and 2003. I'm thinking it will be hard for him to duplicate the stats he put up this year and I should try to sell high. Holmes is the only player that comes to mind that put up back-to-back spectacular seasons.
Don't get me wrong, LT will have many more productive years. However, San Diego will have a more balanced offense as Philip Rivers matures and defenses focus more on and learn how to contain LT (or at least try to).
This gets me to my question. I am considering trading LT and one of my QBs for Manning and Steven Jackson. Even though he'll be entering his 10th season, Manning is still arguably the best fantasy QB. He should put up better numbers next year now that he has a solid RB behind in Joseph Addai. And Jackson is a top 5 RB (#2 on some 2007 rankings) who's on the upside of his career after a breakout season. He put up some LT-type stats toward the latter part of the season.
I have 3 solid QBs in Matt Hasselbeck, Philip Rivers, and Jay Cutler, but all of them are inconsistent. I can only keep one of them, so my choice would be difficult. Hasselbeck would probably be best for the short-term, but he doesn't have many productive years left. I guess the decision hinges on whether Rivers or Cutler has top 5 potential.
Any thoughts?
